Clinical hypnosis (hypnotherapy) combined with the principals of CBT a powerful support mechanism to assist those deciding to stop smoking. Whilst it's true that there's nothing that's guaranteed to make someone stop smoking, having this therapy can make that vital difference in helping you to believe that you can succeed and gaining the confidence to do so. The key to successful change is nearly always at a sub-conscious level. You may recognise the idea of the little voice in your head that can either be very supportive or very negative. "Taming" this inner voice is part of the solution. CBT teaches us that our thoughts affect our feelings and behaviours and that by changing our thoughts we can change the way we feel, such as feeling good about being a non-smoker and about our behaviours, such as quitting.
Hypnotherapy to stop smoking works
Hypnosis to stop smoking is scientifically proven to be the best way to stop smoking, more effective than any other therapy and is 100% safe. In 1992 New Scientist Magazine published the results of an extensive clinical study on the most effective methods of quitting smoking. A meta-analysis, statistically combining the results of more than 600 studies (over 72,000 individual cases) showed that hypnotherapy increased a smokers' success chances from 6% to 60%. These are the research-based success rates from the above study for different smoking cessation methods:
Hypnotherapy has been approved for use by the UK Government and, selectively, by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE). CBT is also an independently researched and proven therapy, similarly approved by NICE.
Only you can make to decision to stop smoking and that's something you have to do to make this work. Hypnotherapy can never make anyone do anything that they don't want to do. It would actually be quite unethical if it could, so willpower is required! Having said this, providing that you really want to stop and you are willing to stick at it, your Quit 4 Life therapist will be happy to work with you to help you to really enjoy being a non-smoker and to achieve long-term success.
What form does our hypnotherapy session take?
The session will take around 80 minutes. Every client's needs and circumstances are different and your therapist will address your particular needs and work out how best to help you. During the hypnotherapy time you will be invited to make yourself comfortable and will be guided into a deeper state where you are more open to positive suggestion and where effective changes to your thoughts, feelings and behaviours can be made by you. Before the end of the session you will be taught how to take yourself into hypnosis as well as how to deal with any cravings, and you will be provided with a specially recorded, instructional hypnosis CD.
What's it like to be in hypnosis?
In a session of hypnotherapy you're likely to feel enjoyably drowsy, relaxed and in a very comfortable state. It?s not a state of sleep and no stage hypnosis tricks are employed. You'll be aware of everything that is happening and afterwards you'll probably remember everything that has been said to you. In this state you are likely to be able to take on board ideas that will help to convince you that you can be successful in becoming a non-smoker and that you can actually enjoy being a non-smoker - more than you've ever enjoyed being a smoker.
How many hypnotherapy sessions will I need?
You may be surprised to read that often only one session is needed. You will also be taught how to take yourself into hypnosis and to use a specially recorded CD to maintain your success. In fact we recommend daily self-hypnosis until you are quite sure that you won't relapse. Occasionally clients feel that they can benefit from a repeat therapy session.
Fee - £160 per session.
